In 2015, the subject of Oakland’s tech inclusion seemed to permeate each of the city's central issues particularly those concerning Oakland business growth, displacement and affordability, employment, and so forth. With so many possibilities, selecting four was a task. However, if strictly looking to the most favorable Oakland PR & Oakland PR Tech Inclusion stories this year, then these four Oakland PR stories truly stand out:
1. $34 Million Investment in Oakland from the San Francisco Foundation
This is a profoundly significant and favorable Oakland PR tech inclusion story on so many different levels. By investing this sum in one city, various proven programs, and the children and teens they benefit, can expand and grow. This means greater access to coding and programing increases their access to the growing prosperity of the tech economy.
2. Uber Comes to Oakland! Love the sharing economy or hate it, the news of Uber's distinct flair for disrupting a variety of industries is moving to Oakland. At the very least, is a boon for Oakland PR tech. The jury is still out on whether Uber will also adopt an inclusive approach to hiring to go along with its new downtown office, formerly the Capwells/Sear building currently undergoing renovation.
3. Golden State Warriors Rock and they continue to! Who knew? If this isn’t crazy off the chain amazing Oakland PR, then I don’t know what is.
4. Oakland, Kapor Center, Hack The Hood, Mindblown Labs, and BlackFounders all amazing Oakland-based businesses and organizations active and impactful throughout the year. Many others exist of course but in terms of Oakland PR tech inclusion, they’re leading the effort.
